Abstract (EN)
Along with the development of translation technologies, specific courses have been taught in Translation and Interpreting programs to promote students' skills in using translation technologies. In academia, different academic approaches have emerged as to how translation technology courses must be set up. Which or which of these approaches are more efficient? This is a controversial question. The aim of this research is to propose a workshop model for teaching translation technologies. To achieve this aim, a 10-week training scheme has been built based on the lesson suggestions from Anthony Pym for training institutions. In the 10th week of the training scheme, a Translation Agency Simulation was placed, in which students portrayed different professional roles. This training scheme was used in the Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) Workshops organized in the Department of French Translation and Interpretation at Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul. Weekly reports were kept during the training. A pre-questionnaire in the beginning and a final questionnaire in the end were distributed to the participating students. Both of the questionnaires were answered anonymously. The empirical data obtained from the questionnaires were evaluated through descriptive analysis method, which is a qualitative research method. Thus, the functionality of the prepared training scheme has been revealed. On the other hand, the future development of the training scheme has been discussed in consideration of different approaches of academics such as Donald Kiraly, Brian Mossop, Silvia Bernardini and Daniel Gouadec towards translation technology education. It has also been discussed what kind of contributions the training scheme might bring to newly-established translation departments and / or current departments teaching translation technologies.
