Strategic planning of Yıldiz Technical University, Vocational School of Foreign Languages

The purpose of this study is to prepare the strategic plan document of Basic EnglishDepartment, School of Foreign Languages, Yıldız Technical University.In this study, the qualitative data was collected about the concepts, processes and themodels of strategic planning. Following the steps from `Strategic Planning for HigherEducation? by Hunt, Oosting, Stevens, Loudon and Migliore, the strategic planning for BasicEnglish Department was prepared . These processes include some series of techniques, toolsand analyses. The most widely used and proposed models and processes were described andthe details of which the steps may include were stated.Main purposes, policies, values, mission, vision and present situation of the institutionwere defined based on the collected data of the structure, the mechanisms of operations andservices of the department. Plans, strategies, objectives and action plans were defined withthe five year plan, in which the one to three years are mainly focused on.As a result, the institutional perspective aims at many future changes for improvementand development including subjects such as educational programmes, staff, building andbudget.
