The effect of pressure wound prevention training given to intensive care nurses on pressure wound incidence and nurse knowledge level

The study was carried out experimentally with a pretest-posttest control group. Before the study, the last 3 months pressure ulcer incidence data of the experimental and control group intensive care units were obtained from the relevant hospitals and the pressure ulcer knowledge test was applied to the nurses in the experimental and control groups as a pre-test. After giving pressure ulcer prevention training to the nurses in the experimental group; The pressure ulcer knowledge test was administered to the experimental and control group nurses as a post-test. Finally, 3- month post-training pressure ulcer incidence data of the intensive care units of the experimental and control groups were obtained from the relevant hospitals. In the study, the pressure ulcer pre-test knowledge score of the experimental group nurses was 67.83∓12.56, while the post-test score was 83.45∓3.77; It was found that the mean pressure ulcer knowledge score increased after pressure ulcer training, which was statistically significant (p<0.05). It was found that while the pre-test score of the control group nurses was 67.03∓7.99, it was 68.95∓9.12 in the post-test and there was no statistically significant difference in the pressure ulcer knowledge score (p>0.05). The incidence of pressure ulcers in intensive care units before the study was 10.47 in the experimental group and 13.45 in the control group. At the time of the completion of the study, the incidence of intensive care was 3.70 in the experimental group and 9.27 in the control group. In the study, a strong negative correlation was found between nurse pressure ulcer knowledge score and intensive care pressure ulcer incidence.
