Abstract (EN)
This study is a randomized controlled study in order to determine the effect of listening to music on sleep quality and anxiety in nurses working shift in Intensive Care Units (ICU). The universe of the study consists of nurses working shifts at the adult and pediatric ICU of a Faculty of Medicine Hospital located in Ankara province. The sample consists of 66 (intervention group=33 control group=33) nurses who meet the criteria for inclusion in the study. The data of the study were collected with the "Information Form", "Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI)", "Beck Anxiety Invantery (BAI)". SPSS 26.0 package program was used for the analysis of the data. It was found that the pre-test, post-test and control test PSQI score averages of the intervention group were 9.27±2.69, 8.48±3.18 and 6.67±2.63 respectively; the control group was 7.21±2.36, 7.70±2.95 and 9.09±2.78; there was a statistically significant difference in the intervention and control group (F=10.03 p=0.01). It was found that the difference between the mean scores of the intervention group on the pre-test, post-test and control test BAI were 16.76±10.61, 11.09±11.68 and 11.33±9.48 (F=7.05; p=0.001) and the mean scores were statistically significant. It was found that the difference between the mean scores of the control group on the pre-test, post-test and control test BAI were 13.42±11.178, 9.03±7.23, 10.15±10.36 and the mean scores weren't statistically significant (F=0.27; p=0.75). As a result, it has been found that listening to TUMATA health band music for 15 minutes 1 hour before bedtime for 3 weeks, 3 days a week for nurses working in ICU significantly reduces anxiety and affects sleep quality. It can be recommended to use music as a method of coping with anxiety for nurses working in ICU.
