Investigation of the efficacy of disinfectants against multiple resistant microorganisms isolated from the intensive care unit

Abstract (EN)

Intensive care units are the place where nearly ¼ of infections related to health care are examined. In there units invasive attempts take place rather more and this results in an important exterance door for the microorganisms. Some of the microorganisms can escape from the host's immune system by creating a biofilm via live habbits or catheter probe used for the care of the patiet and they can sustain their existance in this biofilm by resisting to the antibiotic treatment. To find that how effective the usage of the different disinfectants and antiseptics for the microorganisms which settle inside or on the biofilm created by multi-resistant microorganisms thought to be isabled in the intensive care units is researched in this article. Eleven strains of Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans are included in this study. By using these strainsa biofilm layer is created on stainless steel and microplates. A concentration is prepared by using 0.55% ortho-phtaldehyde, 10% iodine, 500 and 5000 ppm chlorine, 10% and 30% citric acid and 60% and 70% ethyl alcohol. The effectiveness of this concentration on the biofilm layer is researched by applying the concentration 3,5,10,15,30,60 minutes and 24 hours. OPA,ethyl alcohol and chlorine is applied on the microorganisms included in the study and on the biofilms layer created by them during 3,5,10,15,30,60 minutes and 24 hours. While iodine is not applied during 3 or 5 minutes, it is found that 10% and 30% solution has no effect during the contact time. The most effective anti-biofilm is obtained from OPA( 0.55%), ethyl alcohol (60%,70%) and chlorine (500 and 5000 ppm). Iodine (10%) which is used as a powerful anticeptic has no effect during 3 and 5 minutes while it is effective during 10 minutes and over. For the effectiveness of 10% and 30% citric acid at least 24 hours appliance is needed.
