Knowledge, attitude and skills of nurses working in intensive care in physical and chemical restraints applications

Purpose: Purpose of this thesis is the evaluation of physical determination knowledge, attitude and applications along with chemical determination attitude and application of nurses working at intensive care units. Material and Method: This research is a descriptive cross sectional research conducted with 108 nurses working in between March- April 2021 at Kartal Koşuyolu Postgraduate Degree Education and Research Hospital. Data for this research has been gathered by using Nurse Identification Form, Scale for Knowledge Level, Attitude and Applications of Nurses Regarding Physical Determination and Scale for Application of Sedation. The data gathered in this research has been analysed by using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) for Windows 22.0 software. Kurtosis and Skewness values have been evaluated in order to present whether the variables of the researched showed normal distribution. Findings: It has been found that the average for "knowledge regarding physical determinations" is 7.96±2.73, the average for "attitude regarding physical determinations" is 32.31±5.97, the average for "application regarding physical determinations" is 36.86±4.55 for all participating nurses. The average for "belief and attitudes in applications of sedation" is found as 4.09±0.72, the average for "external factors in sedation methods" is found as 3.07±0.96, the average for "applications of sedation methods" is found as 3.89±0.60 for participating nurses Conclusions: It has been concluded that the average of sedation scale and knowledge attitude and application scale regarding physical description usage are high; positively significant difference in between belief attitude and applications of physical determinations and external factors and applications on sedation techniques with beliefs and attitude regarding sedation techniques for the intensive care unit nurses.
