Analysis of the relation between the levels of religious attitude and levels of overcoming the stress in the relatives of the patients in intensive care units

Aim: It was to analyse the relation between the levels of religious attitude and the levels of overcoming the stress in the relatives of the patients in intensive care units. Material and Method: The research, which is of descriptive kind, was actualized between the dates 25.01.2016 and 01.04.2016. All of the family members and friends of the patients (208) who were hospitalized in Mardin Public Hospital General and Coronary Intensive Care Unit made the universe of the research and 104 patient relatives who conformed to the criteria for being accepted into the research made the sample of the research. Personal Information Forms, Attitude Inventory for Overcoming the Stress and Ok-Religious Attitude Scale were used in collecting the data. Percentage distribution test, average tests, Variance Analysis (Anova-Tukey), T-Test and Pearson Correlation Test were used in the evaluation of the data. Results: It is seen that married people have higher religious attitudes when compared to single people in the study of the religious attitudes of the patient relatives according to the demographical variables (p< 0.05). The religious attitude averages of the patient relatives were found as 4.271±0.712 (at a high level) and their averages of attitudes of overcoming the stress were found as 2.254±0.459 (at a medium level). A weak relationship was determined between their religious attitude score averages and their score averages of attitude of overcoming the stress (p=0.026). Conclusion: It was understood that the religious attitudes of the patient relatives had an important part in their overcoming the stress.
