ABSTRACTMaster ThesisPETROGRAPHY AND PETROLOGIY OF VOLCANICIES IN THE VICINITYYOLÜSTÜ- CAFER VILLAGES (ELAZIĞ)Gül VURALFırat UniversityGraduate School of the Naturel and Appled SciencesDepartment of the Geological Engineering2006, Page:The investigated area is situated in the Eastern Taurus orogenic belt which is the animportant tectonic the Tukey. Four different units crop out the study area. These units areUpper Jurasic- Lower Cretaceous Guleman Ophiolites, Upper Meastrichtian-Middle EoceneHazar Group, Middle Eocene Maden Complex, Pleistocene alluviums.Guleman Ophiolites, composed of basaltic pillow lavas, diabase dikes complex, basaltand isolated diabase dikes. The Hazar Group consists of limestone, sandstone andconglomerates. The Maden Complex composed of aglomerate, volcanic sandstone, basalticlavas, basaltic pillow lavas and reddish mudsone. Pleistosen alluviums are represented byconglomerates, gravels and sand.IVThe chemical data indicate that the Guleman Ophiolites are derived from the tholeiticmagma, E type MORB.The Guleman Ophiolites were formed by spreading above a northward-dipping intraoceanic, supduction (supra-subduction) of Neotethyan ocean during Upper Cretaceous. The petrographical and geochemical features of Guleman Ophiolite unit comport withthe features of supra-subduction zone ophiolites and differ from the typical oceanic ridgeophioiles. Therefore the Guleman Opliolite accepted on a supra-subduction ophiolite.Key Words: Elazığ, Eastern Taurus, Suprasubduction ophioites, Petrography,Petrology, Turkey.V
