Abstract (EN)

This research was conducted methodologically to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool specific to the field of nursing management; it was conducted descriptively and cross-sectionally to determine the influence tactics used by nurse managers and the factors affecting these tactics through the scale developed. The research was conducted with nurses working in public, private, and teaching hospitals in Istanbul; data were collected from 820 nurses during the scale development phase and 400 nurses during the application phase. During the scale development process, content, face, and construct validity, as well as internal consistency and test–retest reliability analyses were performed. As a result of exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, a structure with high internal consistency (α=0.976) was obtained, consisting of three sub-dimensions ('Information and Participation-Focused Influence', 'Relational Influence', 'Authority and Rule-Based Influence') and 28 items. In the application phase of the study, according to participants' assessments, nurse managers most frequently used the Information and Participation-Focused Influence tactic, followed by the Relational Influence and Authority and Rule-Based Influence tactics. Statistical analyses revealed that all sub-dimensions showed significant differences according to various demographic and professional variables (p<0.05). According to multiple linear regression analysis, age, unit of employment, work pattern, and voluntary choice of profession statistically significantly affected Information and Participation-Focused Influence scores; age, role, and work pattern affected Relational Influence scores; and age, role, unit of employment, and work pattern affected Authority and Rule-Based Influence scores (p<0.05). Consequently, this research has developed and contributed to the field a valid and reliable measurement tool specific to the nursing management context, namely the 'Scale of Influence Tactics of Nurse Managers'.
