Abstract (EN)

This study aims to determine the main predictors of the managerial resourcefulness of Turkish general managers working in five star accommodation establishments and reveal in terms of what predictors Turkish department managers who are subordinate to managers consider their managers resourceful. It also aims to evaluate the predictors that indicate the managerial resourcefulness of managers in the context of management-culture and to provide a model explaining managerial resourcefulness based on the data obtained. In the study conducted using the grounded theory design, one of the qualitative research designs, the study group consisted of the general managers and the department managers working under them who worked in five-star accommodation establishments operating in the Serik, Aksu, Konyaaltı, Muratpaşa, Manavgat and Kemer districts of Antalya and who were selected via the criterion sampling method, one of the purposeful sampling methods. Observation and in-depth interview technique were employed as data collection tools in the study, and semi-structured interview form was used for this purpose. Another data collection tool employed in the study is field notes and diaries (memos). Content analysis technique and constant comparative analysis method were used to analyze the data obtained from the participants. The obtained data was analyzed by following open, axial and selective coding steps, and NVivo 10 package program was used for data analysis. The raw data of the study were divided into pieces and then coded; from data codes were formed, from codes categories were created, and ultimately a case-oriented theory was developed; and inductive approach was adopted throughout the whole process. As a result of the study, it was found that the managers evaluated within the scope of the research were able to self-regulate their emotions, thoughts and behaviours when performing administrative tasks, in this sense, they had managerial resourcefulness in other words they had self-regulation skills. In addition, it was determined that the establishments included in the study had low power distance, high uncertainty avoidance, a collectivist structure, and a feminine culture in the context of management and culture and all these features affect managerial resourcefulness. In the light of all these findings, three sub-models and ultimately a model explaining managerial resourcefulness were established.
