A dialect study of Saraykent district of Yozgat province

In this study, the linguistic features of the dialect spoken in all settlements of the Saraykent district of Yozgat province are examined in comparison with Standard Turkish. In the introduction, information is provided on the purpose, significance, scope, and limitations of the study, as well as the methods and materials employed. Additionally, the historical and cultural development of the geographical region under investigation, a brief history of dialect studies, the development of dialect research in Türkiye, and previous dialect studies conducted in the same geographical area are presented. The first chapter of the study consists of two sections. In the first section, the phonological features of the region are presented by comparing the data collected from the local dialect with Standard Turkish. The second section focuses on morphological features. In this part, the identified characteristics are evaluated with reference to classifications in the literature, comparing them with Standard Turkish in terms of morphology and word classes. In the second chapter of the thesis, the data obtained from all settlements of the Saraykent district are transcribed using the phonetic symbols commonly employed in dialect research. The texts are presented in sequential sentences. Information on the informants such as age, gender, and educational background is provided alongside notes regarding their speech characteristics during the data collection process. In the third chapter, the Index, all words appearing in the compiled texts are listed alphabetically, with their positions within the texts indicated. The etymology of the words, their meanings within the texts, and their phonological and morphological characteristics are also specified.
