An application for transportation type selection with fuzzy TOPSIS method in freight transportation

Today, the globalization of trade has led to the development of the transportation sector and reach a large business volume. The choice of transportation type plays a critical role in achieving success and sustainability of that success of the business corporations. Therefore, which type of transportation should be preferred for the cargo to be transported, has become a decision that needs to be evaluated in terms of many factors. In addition, it has become inevitable to realize that for this selection problem, which is influenced by various factors, solutions that optimize only some factors are not sufficient but it is necessary to make this choice by considering the optimum benefit of the company. In this study, the fuzzy TOPSIS method, which is one of the methods used in fuzzy environments, where many criteria are effective and where a group decision needs to be made, is explained and the most appropriate transportation type for the freight transportation between Istanbul and Italy to be carried out by a company operating in the logistics sector in Istanbul is selected by the fuzzy TOPSIS method. Through this study, it is also shown that a scientific and easily applicable method that can evaluate verbal expressions can be used to select the type of transportation and make a group decision.
