ivTHE RELATIONSHIP AND IMPROVMENT BETWEEN HIGH RISEBUILDING STRUCTURE AND FACADE SUBSYSTEMS(M.Sc. Thesis)Aysun ERKEKELGAZ UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYFabruary 2006ABSTRACTThe industrial revolution brought forward advanced materials andadaptation in technology, stretching the buildings taller hence nowknown as 'skyscrapers' which has dramatically affected the silhouetteof the cities. The improvement on high rise buildings since the 1900'shas been investigated in various ways by researchers and architects.Some have considered these structures according to their styles andsome have concentrated on their functional improvements. Under thecontext of these works, starting from the 1800's, the relationshipbetween high rise structures and the 'under-façade' system have beenclassified under 3 main titles: Early, Modern, Geçmodern and present.These have been expressed through buildings that best reflect thequalities of a specific period.
