ABSTRACT MSc THESIS MIX DESIGN OF HIGH STRENGTH CONCRETE KUBİLAY AKÇ AÖZO?LU DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING INSTITUTE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES UNIVERSITY OF ÇUKUROVA Supervisor : Assist. Prof. Dr. Cengiz Duran ATİŞ Year: 2001 Pages: 105 Jury : Assist. Prof. Dr. Cengiz Duran ATİŞ : Assist Prof. Dr. Beytullah TEMEL : Assist. Prof. Dr. Zeliha SELEK In this work, the factors influencing the strength of concrete were studied. In the light of this study, discussion was made for how to produce high strength and high performance concrete. As a result, the production of high strength concrete was achieved. It was shown that how the strength of concrete was influnced by the gradation and maxsimum size of aggregate, water-cement ratio and amount of the cement. High strength concrete with the compressive strength of 600 kgf7cm2, the flexural strength of 70 kgf/cm2and the modulus of rupture of 50 kgf/cm2 were obtained by the use of appropriate mix proportioning, low water-cement ratio and blended cement called KZÇ/A 32. 5R which is generally used in the production of normal strength concrete. It is found that the strength was increased with decreasing the water-cement ratio. The use of finer aggregate hi a unit volume of concrete resulted in an increase in the amount of cement to keep the strength of concrete for a constant value due to the constant water-cemet ratio. It was also shown that a workable concrete can be produced with the low water-cement ratio by the use of plasticizers. Keywords: High strength, water-cement ratio, gradation of aggregate, amount of cement, plasticizer. n
