Ultra high frequency induction heated sintering of powder metals

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the sintering of pure Al and boron carbide reinforced Al and the sintering of pure and boron carbide reinforced alumina was researched by using induction generator which has 1.12 kW and 1.96 kW with 900 kHz frequency respectively. Al and Al-based powder metals were shaped by using uniaxial cold press, Alumina and alumina based powder materials were shaped in graphite mold by using uniaxial hot press under 3 MPa in open air. Acquired Aluminum matrix specimens were sintered under 600oC and 630oC temperature with 30 seconds waiting period and Aluminum matrix specimens were sintered under 16000C with 20 seconds waiting period. Mechanical properties of obtained pure and boron carbide reinforced Aluminum and Alumina specimens were inspected. As result of this research, its observed that powder metal specimens can be sintered by induction successfully. Mechanical properties, microstructural properties, hardness and density values were inspected and compered with each other.
