Abstract (EN)
High speed concept can be seen in recent years as a reflection of the developments in production technology on electric machines. From smart phone to the internet, from communication to the transportation, from production to the consumption, in short, high speed which penetrates our whole life is the indispensable part of our time. This thesis study includes the development of a new high-power density electric machine and its driver, which is suitable for high speed applications, adapting to the technology development. The design of electric machines includes electrical, electromagnetics, mechanical, thermal and acoustical problems. However in traditional electric machine designs, mostly electrical and electromagnetics point of views are the only considerations. This approach may be partially reasonably acceptable for conventional electric machines. However for the high speed electric machine development, the designer has to deal with these five sciences together. This makes electric machine design very difficult. In this thesis, the high speed electric machine design is investigated, analyzed and interpreted considering multidisciplinary approach. The high-frequency electrical supply, which emerges as a natural result of high speed, increases the iron losses in the electric machine. To minimize core losses and to reach high power density, new high-quality lamination materials are investigated. In thisthesis, the cobalt-iron composite lamination material, which provides high power density and minimum iron loss, is firstly used and tested in a high speed electric machine. The flow of the thesis can be summarized as follows: Definition of high speed concept in electric machines; the advantages and disadvantages of high speeds in electric machines and high speed industrial application areas, the literature summary and classification of high-speed electric machines are given in the first part. In the second chapter, switched reluctance motor is developed for CNC machine applications which is one the application areas of high speed electric machines. The design, optimization and analysis results of the switched reluctance motor are presented in this section. In the third chapter, switched reluctance motor and its driver prototyping stages are given. Finally, the test setup and test results are presented in the same section, and the interpretations of the outputs obtained during the thesis work are summarized in the conclusion.
