Determination of suitable atelier surroundings for an efficient graphic education in higher education

The main objective of this research is to determine the existing workshop condi tions at the departments of graphic arts at universities for an effective education of graphic arts, in the light of these researches to determine the ideal enviroment of workshops and propose valid suggestions to the concerning institutions. A survey which was developed by the researcher and an interview form were used as information collecting devices. The interview form which was developed for this research was applied, in the province of Ankara, at Gazi Üniversitesi Mesleki Eğitim Fakültesi Uygulamalı Sanatlar Eğitimi Bölümü Grafik Ana Bilim Dalı, Gazi Üniver sitesi Gazi Eğitim Fakültesi Güzel Sanatlar Eğitimi Bölümü Resim-İş Eğitimi Ana Bilim Dalı ve Hacettepe Üniversitesi Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi Grafik Bölümü Grafik Ana Sanat Dalı which offer the education of graphic arts, 2., 3., 4. class on 184 stu dents with the participation of the students of Departments of Science / Art. Data were collected by questionnaire which was prepared by the researcher of the students. In the first section, there are 2 questions about demograhic qualifications of the students. In the second section of the questionnaire, about workshop situations 21 questions. In the first section on the teachers, question about which was graphic workshops. In the second of the questionnaire, about workshop situations in the education of graphic arts 4 questions. The data which was collected as the result of the application of the interview was analysed to realize the objective of the research, the statistical frequency and per centage of each question was obtained, they were interpreted in tables and a general evaluation was performed. The SPSS 10 programme was used for the statistical data. According to the data of the survey, the majority of the gruop of university stu dents who are offered the education of graphic arts expressed that the workshops of design, printing, photography and computer have important roles in their education where as the existing workshop situations are insufficient in many respects.
