Abstract (EN)
With the industrial revolution and the urbanization process, the number of high-rise buildings have increased rapidly in the city centres. Their forms rise on a specific geometric plan and draw attention in the city centres, with their height. In the process of time, differentiations have been observed in high-rise forms, caused by economic growth, technological developments, new functional needs, architectural trends, and ecological approaches. In this context, the study focuses on the differences in the mass forming properties of high-rises. Within the scope of the thesis, the mass formation characteristics of high-rises have been examined and their forms have been classified. The factors affecting the high-rise formation have been investigated, and a conceptual framework regarding the high-rise building forming properties have been created. Accordingly, high-rise forms have been divided into 5 main groups: orthogonal forms, pyramidal forms, rotated forms, twisted forms, and free forms. In addition, in the study, the highest 100 building forms constructed between 2000-2021 in Europe and Asia have been evaluated comparatively by using CTBUH (Tallest Buildings and Urban Habitat Council) data to examine the high-rise forming properties. The result of this study shows that rotated-form and free-form (ecological approach) high-rises are built more in Europe than in Asia, since they are not very high in Europe and are used for offices and residences.
