Abstract (EN)
Pearlized BOPP films are widely used especially for food packaging industry. Different types of coatings are commonly applied on this film, to control gas and moisture permeability, in order to keep foodstuffs for longer periods of time. Due to disadvantages of polymeric coatings like biotoxicity, compatibility with food and degradation, sol gel coatings are preferred and advantageous. In this thesis, Ormocer based coatings are applied to low density and opaque pearlized films by using film applicator. In the context of this thesis, three different type of coatings are used, Si-O-Si based coatings, Ti-O-Ti based coatings, Zr-O-Zr based coatings. TEOS is used to apply Si-O-Si based coatings onto pearlized BOPP film. TEOT and TEOS are used together to apply Ti-O-Ti based coatings. TEOS and zirconium propoxide are used together to apply Zr-O-Zr based coatings on third phase of this work. The resulting film structures were structurally verified primarily by FTIR spectra. Then, surface morphologies and homogeneous distribution of films are checked by SEM analysis. Detailed analysis of surface morphologies is investigated by atomic force microscopy. Optical microscope is used for detailed analysis of the change in outer morphologies of Ormocer based coatings. After all these analyzes, Si-O-Si peak seen at 1000 – 1100 cm-1, Ti-O and Zr-O peaks seen at 450 cm-1 proves the existence of Ormocer coatings on the surface. In addition, significant increases in surface roughness in SEM and AFM analyzes show that the film structure on the surface is homogeneous and transparent. Optical microscope analyzes confirms that there is no obvious crack formation during coatings and the film offers an optionally usable film structure.
