Abstract (EN)

This study makes an attempt at examining the ?Questionaires of Lecturer and Course Evaluation? employed in institutions of higher education so as to evaluate lecturers? teaching performance in higher education institutions in terms of dimensions of educational programmes and questionaire preparation, and thus developing a sample questionaire for use in universities and studying the correlations of such a questionaire with several variables (such as the type of field, state of academic achievement, gender, grade level and taking a course again). This is a descriptive study and is based on a review model. 35 questionaires which had been designed so as to evaluate the lecturers and courses in 32 Turkish universities through students? views were put to content analysis in terms of the dimensions of the programmes and conformity to questionaire preparation techniques. In order to the reliability and validity study of the questionaire that was developed by the researcher, a sample application is made with 84 fourth year students attending the Art, Biology and Turkish Language Teaching departments of Gazi University Gazi Faculty of Education in the 2008-2009 academic year. Cronbach Alpha coefficient was used for reliability whereas factor analysis was utilised for validity. The data obtained were analysed, and thus the questionaire was given the final shape. The actual application was performed with 407 third and fourth year students of Mathematics Teaching, Biology Teaching, Physics Teaching, Philosophy Teaching, History Teaching, Turkish Teaching, Art Teaching and Music Teaching departments of Gazi University Gazi Faculty of Education in the 2009-2010 academic year by giving them a Questionaire of Lecturer and Course Evaluation; and variables influential in students? rating were analysed. The data obtained were then analysed through the t-test and ANOVA.The research findings demonstrated that the questionaires prepared by universities were related to educational states of the programmes in particular, and that 21% of the questionaire items did not conform to questionaire preparation techniques. Moreover, it was also found that students studying a branch in Social Sciences assigned higher scores to lecturers than those studying a branch in Fine Arts did. It was also found that students taking a course for the second time assigned lower scores to the items concerning course evaluation than those taking the course for the first time did.It is a must that questionaires of lecturer and course evaluation currently used or to be used in universities should attain reliability and validity.
