Determination of phytic acid and mineral contents of oat breeding samples

Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to determine some nutritional properties of alternativesummer and winter oat varieties (Avena sativa L.) desired to be developed in terms of suitable for human nutrition in 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 crop years. In this study, 44 lines and 5 standard varieties (Sarı, Fetih, Checota, Haskara, Kahraman) developed as a result of summer oat breeding studies by Eagean Agricultural Research Institute and 60 lines and 4 standard varieties (Kırklar, Kahraman, Sebat, Yeniçeri) developed as a result of winter oat breeding studies by Thrace Agricultural Research Institute were included as a research material. In this study, minor nutritional components such as mineral elements (Ca, Na, K, Mg, Zn, Fe, Mn) and phytic acid contents were determined for total 452 oat samples which are 196 line/variety (summer 49x2 locationx2 year) grown by ETAE in Karacabey and Menemen locations; and 256 line/variety (winter 64x2 locationx2 year) grown by TTAE in Kırklareli and Edirne locations. The data were subjected to analysis of variance using SPSS statistical program. In addition, the relationships between mineral components of oat genotypes were investigated with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) using R program in detail here. iv The phytic acid content (in dry basis) of oat lines ranged between %0,97-1,94 in summer oat samples (n=196), %0,91-1,94 in winter oat samples (n=256). The mineral content (in dry basis) of oat samples ranged between 31,7-61,0 mg/100g Ca, 3,6-45,0 mg/100g Na, 310,9-755,5 mg/100g K, 113,8-215,1 mg/100g Mg, 1,8-12,2 mg/100g Zn, 0,9-5,1 mg/100g Mn, 2,2-8,1 mg/100g Fe in summer samples (n=196); 28,4-71,0 mg/100g Ca, 1,3-22,1 mg/100g Na, 282,9-615,6 mg/100g K, 128,1-223,7 mg/100g Mg, 0,3-10,7 mg/100g Zn, 2,0-5,9 mg/100g Mn, 2,2-12,3 mg/100g Fe in winter samples (n=256). According the total mineral element results, the improved oat lines and varieties 6, 12, 19, 25, 33, Sarı and Fetih in Karacabey; 3, 26, 31, 33, 38, 39 and Kahraman in Menemen; 15, 43, 44, 56, 59, 61, 62 and Sebat in Kırklareli; 18, 26, 29, 31, 52, 53 ve 54 in Edirne were found as promising genotypes and according the phytic acid content, 7, 8, 9, 27, 29, 45 in Karacabey; 6, 24, 25, 27, 28, 45 and Haskara in Menemen; 5, 12, 25, 30, 34, 38 in Kırklareli; 30, 32, 45, 48, 53, 63 in Edirne location were found as promising genotypes for human nutrition.
