Investigation of the effects of soft tissue laser surgery on process of the tissue healing

Abstract (EN)

Compared to traditional method, it was investigated whether the known advantages of laser would work in the treatment of epulis fissuratum. 22 patients having prediagnosised epulis fissuratum in our clinic and having obligatory excision surgery in his/her treatment planning. In the same patient, the excision of the lesions was done both with scalpel operation and with diode laser operation. İn the wound recovery duration two different operative techniques were compared under four parameters. These are microbiologic culture samples examined carefully with conventional microbiological methods, the pursuit of clinical healing carried out with digital recovery analyze, the existence of preoperative and postoperative hemorrhage, and on the 1st, 2nd, 5th,10th days the pain scores felt on the operative area. The data acquired for all the parameters were evaluated statistically. The recovery of laser operation wounds was slower. However, when the whole postoperative recovery and evaluation period was taken into account, statistically no noticeable difference was able to be found between two techniques. The results of this study has shown that using diode laser during the excision of the tissue layers spreading over a wide area creates a operation without hemorrhage area and this stems to operation without suture, also as the laser operation has an antibacterial effect. We couldn?t get possibility to mention the laser operation?s superiority to scalpel on the area of tissue recovery speed and pain intensity. In order to come to a definite conclusion, it is thought to have more studies.
