Turkish type of authentic leadership in Turkish contracting companies operating abroad

The main purpose of this study is to question the existence of authentic leadership elements in the owners and/or senior managers of Turkish contracting enterprises carrying out successful activities abroad for many years and ranking second in the World in terms of business volume. It has been investigated the extent to which the authentic leadership elements of the leaders in Turkish contracting businesses include the elements mentioned in the literature, and whether there are different authentic leadership elements in the context of Turkish contracting businesses. In addition, the existence of a Turkish type of authentic leadership and what elements it contains from different leadership styles were investigated and a Turkish type of authentic leadership style was revealed. The study is an exploratory research in this sense, and it may function as a premise for the following studies. In the first chapter, management, the concept of leadership and leadership approaches and authentic leadership are examined. In the second chapter, the general outlook of the contracting enterprises, the foreign activities of the Turkish contracting enterprises and their relative place in the world, and the leadership and authentic leadership literature in the Turkish contracting enterprises are included. In the third chapter, the analysis and interpretation of the data obtained through the interviews with the owners and/or senior managers of the Turkish contracting companies operating abroad were made. In the light of the data, the interactions of Turkish type authentic leadership with other leadership styles were also evaluated by making use of the literature, and a list of Turkish type authentic leadership elements was established.
