Abstract (EN)
The relationship between walking behaviors and the build environment is questioned in walkability research. Effects of built environmental features on walking behavior have been evaluated by using three basic methods which are objective, subjective and distinctive. In the objective method these effects are analyzed by using Geographic Information System (GIS), and density, diversity and design (3D) and distance to transit (3D + R) are the built evironment features that are most commonly used variables in this method. However, under the design dimension, the number of Street intersections is moslty used and this situation is criticized. Objective methods are predominantly used by transport planners and health professionals. In evaluation of the street view, the fractal dimension value of the streetscape offers an important opportunity to fill this gap. It has been found in many studies that the fractal dimension value of the street view is an important tool in numerically expressing the diversity in the street view layout and the hierarchy between scales. The relationship between the fractal dimension value of the street view and the visual quality and aesthetic taste of the street has been questioned in many studies and it has been revealed that there is an important relationship between them. However, in studies conducted so far, the relationship between the fractal dimension value of the street dimension and walkability has not been questioned. The street view (vista) fractal dimension value allows the use of design elements in walkability indices, and a re-analysis the importance of design component for transportation purposes. In this study conducted in Dutluk Metro Station of Keçiören, Ankara; 3D and 3D + R walkability indices are created, and the role of street view fractal dimension value in walkability indices is examined. According to the results of the study, the fractal dimension value of the street view more successfully defines the factors affecting walking behavior. Fractal dimension value of the streetscape is successful in explaining the walkability value given by the individuals to the routes they use.
