Yusuf al-Qaradawi’s views on women

In every era, the Islamic world has produced faqihs and mujtahids who are equipped to produce solutions to the problems of the age. This situation has continued for centuries, and many fiqh scholars have been trained in this sense in the last century. One of these faqihs is Yusuf al-Qaradawi, who based his solutions on the responsibility of society and took an important place in the Islamic world with his adherence to the Qur’an and the Sunnah. Qaradawi gave fatwas within the framework of taysir and carried out ijtihad activities from time to time. He guided society with his approach to issues and at the same time prevented some possible problems.Although he has deepened in the fields of fiqh, history of fiqh and fiqh methodology, he has also had a say in many different fields such as hadith, creed, tafsir, Islamic culture and philosophy. In addition to expressing his opinions in many areas of Islamic sciences, he was not indifferent to issues related to women. Qaradavi, who took many problems related to the private life of Muslim women on his agenda, made important reflections on women and religion, and dealt with many current issues related to worship, family and social life from a fiqh point of view. The aim of this study, which consists of three parts, is to examine Qaradawi’s views on the provisions regarding worship, family and social life related to women together with their evidence and to determine his position regarding traditional fiqh schools. In addition, by referring to the interpretations of modern Islamic faqihs in some sections, it is aimed to compare three types of titles on the same plane. As a result of the study, it was observed that Qaradawi, without adhering to a single sect, made solution-oriented ijtihad provisions and his preferences were oriented towards practice rather than theory.
