Abstract (EN)
This study investigated the relationship between social appearance anxiety and social anxiety levels based on whether adult women residing in Istanbul had undergone dermocosmetic procedures. The sample consisted of 471 female participants residing in Istanbul. Participants were selected from women undergoing procedures at dermatology clinics in various districts of Istanbul, while those not undergoing procedures were randomly selected from the same districts to complete the survey. Surveys from 7 participants undergoing procedures and 14 participants not undergoing procedures were excluded from the analysis as they were found to have incomplete surveys prior to data analysis. In addition to a demographic information form, the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale and Social Appearance Anxiety Scale were used to assess the relationship between variables. According to the findings of the study, both the anxiety and avoidance sub-scores of participants not undergoing procedures were significantly higher than those of participants undergoing procedures. There was a positive significant correlation between social anxiety levels and social appearance anxiety levels in both groups. The anxiety sub-scores of participants undergoing procedures explained a 44% increase in social appearance anxiety scores, while the avoidance sub-scores positively and significantly predicted social appearance anxiety in this group. Conversely, in the group not undergoing procedures, an increase in fear sub-scores explained a 53% increase in social appearance anxiety scores.
