Abstract (EN)

While the technical developments and rapid increase in population have significantly increased the demand for energy and water globally, global crises such as Covid-19 pandemic and the Russian- Ukrainian war have caused costs to increase significantly. Floating photovoltaic power system is a strategy to harvest solar power. Floating photovoltaic power systems are installed on water surfaces, they save water by preventing water evaporation, increase water quality by preventing algae bloom, reduce energy costs by eliminating land costs compared to land-based PV systems, and increase the efficiency of panels with lower temperature coefficient due to the cooling effect of water. The most suitable place for FPV systems to be installed on is dams built for hydroelectric power plants. In this experiment, five different installations at different inclination angles and cooling techniques in the Almus dam lake were installed to compare floating and land-based PV systems in terms of power output and operating temperature. The data was analyzed and evaluated in terms of temperature, power output and efficiency. The FPV panel surface temperature was recorded to be 10.3 degrees lower than the land-based PV panel at the same inclination angle. Output power of FPV panel was 5.9 watts higher than land-based panels at the same inclination angle. The floating panel efficiency was 1.77% higher than the land-based PV panel. The findings of this study firmly establish the superiority of floating photovoltaic panels over land-based systems. The enhanced energy output and efficiency highlight the potential of floating solar solutions in meeting the escalating energy demand while conserving land resources.
