Development of multifunctional tablet formulations for swimming pools

Abstract (EN)
In this study, a multifunctional tablet formulation was developed to provide disinfection, algae prevention, precipitation, pH balancing and brightening properties with a single product. For this purpose, 9 formulations with different main disinfectant sources Ca(ClO)2, NaDDC, TCCA and chemical contents were developed. The formulations were first brought into tablet form and their external structure and integrity were evaluated. For all formulations, pH, conductivity, free chlorine, transmittance, absorbance and alkalinity tests, heavy metal (Al, As, Fe) tests, coliform, enterococci and clostrdia counts were performed. No heavy metals were found in the ingredients. For the 8th and 9th formulations, cyanuric acid test was performed. When all these results were evaluated, anion/cation test, qualitative evaluation of algaecide properties, buffer capacity tests and microbiological analysis were performed on formulations 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9. Although the pH values of the pool water solutions prepared in 2 doses for all formulations were between the standards, the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th formulations were the most ideal for free chlorine measurement results. However, for the 3rd, 4th and 5th formulas, the easy dispersion of the structure in tablet form and the absence of a significant change in transmittance values and the presence of different main disinfectants continued the studies with the selection of the 1st, 2nd, 7th, 8th and 9th formulas. Anion and cation tests showed that the 1st and 2nd formulation stood out in terms of eliminating pollutant factors. On the other hand, with the qualitatively examined algae prevention feature, it was observed that all formulas selected except the 8th formula prevented algae in pool water. For all formulas, it was observed that the pH value of the pool water to which they were added increased. In the tests for acidity buffer capacity with the selected formulas, it was observed that the addition of the formulas to the pool water made the pool water resistant to acidic conditions. When E. coli, P. aeruginosa, S. aureus, E. faecium and L. pneumophila bacteria tests were performed on the selected formulas, it was determined that no findings were found and the products were in compliance with the standards of use. Finally, by comparing the selected formulas with commercially available powder chlorine, precipitant, brightener and pH booster products, it was revealed that the multifunctional product we produced has an industrial value.
