Compiling the development criteria of the z-book and evaluating a modified z-book within these criteria

This study is aimed to find out to see what kind of features the Z-Book should have within the context of FATIH Project which is started by the Ministry of National Education and to set the design criteria for the Z-Books. In the literature review, it is seen that digital textbooks used in South Korea's Digital Textbook Project are similar to z-books that are used in FATIH Project. The studies about Digital Textbook in South Korea are examined while setting the criteria; these studies are beneficial mostly for this study. The criteria are grouped under the headings as "instructional content, page layout, text design, personalization, platform, interface, multimedia, interaction (hypertexts, navigation) and dictionary". After setting the criteria, an existing English course z-book which is used in FATIH Project is analyzed by the criteria and some shortages are found and some changes are done on the Z-Book. This research is based on a qualitative study in which case study; semi-structured interview and focus group interview are used as the data collection procedures. In the case study, teachers' views are asked about the original version and the modified version of the z-book. 5 English teachers who are working in Anatolian High Schools for the Ministry of National Education are reached by convenient sampling method; voluntary participated in the individual interview and focus group interview. The collected data are analyzed by content analysis and the given answers are separated into the main themes and the sub themes. According to the results of this study, some shortages are identified in the modified z-book. The participants indicated that z-book couldn't get their expectations and wished to have rich ingredients. They also reported that the written notes in the z-book should be printed and shared with teachers and classmates, teachers should make changes in z-book, the menus of the z-book should be improved, the z-book should be more interactive, the multimedia and activities should be increased, the images and videos should be updated according to the daily life, there should be more drag-drop activities, fill in the blanks, open-ended questions and at the end of every chapter revision tests should be added.
