Abstract (EN)
The family is the first place society communicates and interacts with. With the emergence of new communication technologies, people's habits of using social media are also changing. Changing habits of using social media affects intra-family communication. The purposes of using social media reveal positive and negative results in family communication. In this study, the effects of social media usage habits of generation Z university students on communication within the family are highlighted. Accordingly, in the first part, concepts such as generation Z and social media are included. In the second part, the effect of social media use on family communication is examined and the findings of the research are given in the last part. The difference of the study from other studies is that the social media usage habits of university students are discussed over Generation Z. A questionnaire, one of the quantitative research methods, was applied while determining the effects of social media usage habits of university students with generation Z on family communication. In the study, the questionnaire was applied to Sakarya University Communication Faculty students. The findings obtained were measured and interpreted with the SPSS 25.0 program. With the obtained quantitative findings, how an effective family communication should be will be determined. According to the findings, students ' use of social media does not negatively affect their family relationships.
