Experimental investigation of tool wear in time by machining noise

Abstract (EN)

In this thesis work, investigation of cutting tool wear with respect to machining noise has been studied. SAE 1030 forced steel material has been used for this purpose. Firstly, suitable cutting parameters (cutting speed, feed) have been determıned experimentally. These experiments have been performed for 2.5 mm chip depth in a CNC type turning machine by using 130, 140, 150 meter/mınute cutting speed and 0,15, 0,2, 0,3 mm/revolution feed. After the evaluation of the experimental results, cutting speed and feed is determıned as 140 meter/mınute and 0,2 mm/revolution respectively. The noise level of the tool wear for each mınute of the machining time between 5 and 20 mınutes has been analyzed by using the decided cutting parameters. Two types of cutting tools have been used in the analyses.When the flank wear values (VB) are investigated in time, while the flank wear is 0.074 mm in 5th mınute, it has rised to 0,2 mm in 20th mınute. After the experiments, it has been determıned that the relationship between the tool wear and machining noise is strong and the tool wear can be determıned by using the machining noise.Wear models of IC 8250 and IC9250 cutting tools have been developed for SAE 1030 forced steel material by using the experimental data.
