Abstract (EN)
The formation of the universe has been the subject of many philosophical, religious and scientific studies. This study examines the understanding of creation of Zamakhshari, one of the leading figures of Islamic thought. His cosmological views are examined through textual analysis considering his works and related sources. The basic arguments on which these views are based are determined. Other thinkers' evaluations of related views are also discussed. In this context, the study consists of four main sections. The introduction section examines the views on creation throughout history. The second section provides information about Zamakhshari's life. The third section explains the meanings of some verbs used in the Quran regarding creation and mentions about some theories regarding creation. The final section focuses on Zamakhshari's interpretations of the Quranic verses within the framework of the creation of the universe. It is seen that Zamakhshari had original ideas on the creation of the universe. Zamakhshari, while defining Allah as the absolute creator, defends the view that during the creation of the universe, some objects were created from nothing and the others were formed through the change/metamorphosis of these objects. He states that all systems in the process of change/metamorphosis were created flawlessly by Allah. It is seen that Zamakhshari's understanding of creation is compatible with the scientific and philosophical accumulation of the period. It is concluded that this understanding has an important place in Islamic thought.
