Child and education themes in Zeynep Cemali's stories and novels

Children?s literature which has an aim of raising readers who can think, question, empathize is the general name of the productions which are written for children, can satisfy their interests and needs, suitable for their language development and level of understanding, have some art value, rich in linguistic and visual messages and include both national and universal values.The development of children?s literature in Turkey is closely related to the development of Children?s literature in the world. The period of Administrative Reforms which is seen as the starting point of all the reforms by the men of letters is counted as the starting point of children?s literature.Writings for children before the period of Administrative Reforms are not appreciated as children?s literature because they only advise and are more likely for elders rather than children. After the Constitutionalism, our writers tried to write writings that fits in the definiton of children?s literature by taking lessons from the mistakes that were made in the past. However, children?s literature found its real place after 1970s.How suitable a writing for children?s literature is related to the qualification of its writer. A good writer of the children?s literature should know the insight of the child, guess the way he/she thinks, find his/her interests and know the quality of the children?s literature. There are many writers of the children?s literature in our day. One of them is Zeynep Cemali. In her writings, Zeynep Cemali cares about the child; she not only teaches them universal values like shareing, sacrificeing, helping others but also enables them to think, question and criticize. While achieving educational part of the children?s literature which is a means of education, Zeynep Cemali does not neglect the beauty of the mother language, esthetic and taste of the literature.
