The military operations for terrorism's formation of the agenda in national press a study on the Olive Branch Operation example

Turkey organized the cross-border operation -The Olive Branch Operation- in order to ensure the national security and to end the terrorist attacks of PKK and its extensions in the northern part of Syria according to the Article 51 of the United Nations Convention on January 20, 2018. The cross-border operation carried out by the Turkish Armed Forces within the scope of the fight against terrorism has taken its place in the Turkish and world press and has been followed closely. Based on the assumption that the media determines "the importance and priority of the issue" and "what to think about" and thus generates the public agenda the main purpose of the study is to determine how and how much of the Olive Branch operation took place in the printed media in the date range between 19.01.2018 and 02.02.2018. In order to reflect the Turkish press completely, Haber Türk, Cumhuriyet, Evrensel, Yeniçağ and Yeni Şafak Newspapers were selected as samples, which have different ideologies and publication approaches. After the theoretical analysis, the content of the news about the operation in the newspapers was examined by content analysis method based on how and at what extent the news is included, the forms of presentation, and the quantitative and qualitative elements. As a result of the quantitative and qualitative data obtained, it has been determined that the newspapers have intensively covered the news about the operations but reflect the news to the public through their ideological window.
