The effectiveness of constant time delay instruction in teaching the skill of identifying money to mentally handicapped children

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of constant time delay instruction in teaching the skill of identifying money to mentally handicapped children. This study also examined the effect of generalization accross materials and conditions and maintenance one, three and four weeks after the end of instruction.The experimental design of this study was multiple probe model with probe conditions across subjects which is one of the single subject research models. The dependent variable of this research was subjects? identifying %100 correctly shown Turkish Liras and coins. The independent variable of this research was constant time delay instruction which was used to teach identifying money to the subjects.Five students who have the diagnosis of mental reterdation was participated in this study. One of the students was chosen as replacement subject for avoiding subject loss. A pilot study was conducted with one of the students. The study was conducted with three subjects. The implementation process was organized as probe, instruction, maintenance and generalization sessions by the researcher. One to one instruction was used in all instruction sessions.The findings of this study showed that constant time delay instruction was effective in teaching the skill of identifying money to mentally handicapped children. Additionally, generalization accross materials and conditions and maintenance one, three and four weeks after the end of instruction was found to occur.Keywords: Mentally Handicapped Children, The Skill of Identifying Money, Constant Time Delay Instruction
