Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to describe, from the perspective of the families, the interaction between the specialists and the families whose children were diagnosed as children with intellectual disability during the process of diagnosis in a Guidance and Research Center (GRC). The study group included family members of 40 children who were diagnosed as children with intellectual disability during the academic year of 2009-2010. In order to answer the research questions, an "expert-family interactions" questionnaire from the perspective of the families was developed. The questionnaire is composed of three sections. In order to be able to collect the families? opinions, the third section of the questionnaire included a rating profile. Results indicate that the families' ratings regarding instances of the attitudes and behaviors of the experts concentrated on the levels of "medium" and "much". The family members rated only the instance of behavior of "was modest" relatively at lower level. In the same way, the family members rated the instances of behavior regarding the communication skills of the experts as "medium" and higher. The lowest ratings among the instances of behavior were given for the behavior of "allocated sufficient time".To summarize, the results of this study can be interpreted as positive when one takes into consideration the overload that the specialists who work in the GRC are subject to and the educational level of the family members.
