Family attitudes about people with i̇ntellectual disabilities gain the profession

This research examines mentally disabled individuals. Family attitude about getting profession of mild – mentally disabled individuals is analyzed. Connection between family attitude and spesific factors is surveyed. According to purpose of research, a survey form is organized. To conduct the survey permission from the Ministry of National Education of İzmit is obtained. 124 public surveys are applied to the families of mentally disabled people between the ages 15 – 25 at three different places in İzmit district of Kocaeli. Data obtained from results of research are analyzed by using SPSS 10.0 programme. t-Test and ANOVA tests are applied to reveal wheather the connection between spesifics are significant or not. According to the test results, charts are formed. By comparison, charts are interpreted, and concluded. The results of the research indicate a relationship between family attitudes about getting profession of mentally disabled individuals and economic status and educational level of the family. However, no connection is found between parent's attitudes, the age of child, gender of parents who answered the questions, the child's skill of living independently, the educational level of child.
