Systematic compilation of academic studies degard with on teaching mathemmatics to mentally disabled people

The aim of this study is to determine the distribution of academic studies on teaching mathematics skills with individuals with intellectual disabilities between 2013 and 2023 in terms of different variables. For this purpose, studies were examined according to study type, publication year, research model, age-gender characteristics, level of intellectual disability, data collection tool, data analysis, method/technique and strategy used (independent variable), and mathematics skill taught (dependent variable).Systematic review method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. The data were obtained by document analysis. While collecting the data, the words "Intellectual Disability", "Mathematics Teaching", "Problem Solving" were searched separately and together in the National Thesis Center of the Council of Higher Education and Google Scholar database.When filtered according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria determined for the systematic review as a result of the search with keywords, the remaining 19 studies were included in the review. The collected data were analyzed using the Academic Study Review Form, and the data obtained were tabulated using Ms Office Excel program.The data corresponding to each sub-problem of the research are shown and interpreted with tables and graphs.According to the results obtained, in recent years, most master's thesis studies on teaching mathematics skills with individuals with intellectual disabilities have been included, most publications were made in 2014 and 2019 as the year of publication, and the number of studies on the subject has decreased numerically over the years, multiple probe model was preferred by the researchers, most studies were conducted with the age range of 7-14, and more studies were conducted with male participants in terms of gender, it was concluded that individuals with mild intellectual disabilities were mostly worked with in the teaching of mathematics skills, data recording form was mostly used as a data collection tool, data were mostly analyzed with graphic analysis, direct teaching method and point determination technique were mostly preferred in the teaching of mathematics skills, addition operation teaching and problem solving skills teaching were mostly worked with individuals with intellectual disabilities.According to this result, it is expected that the preschool education age group and individuals with intellectual disabilities aged 15 years and above should be included more in the studies, it is suggested that the levels of intellectual disability other than mild intellectual disability should be included in the studies, research model diversity should be ensured by using different research models in the studies, studies measuring the effectiveness of different methods in mathematics teaching should be included, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, measurement, geometry, data processing and other learning areas determined by the Ministry of National Education should be included more when choosing the mathematics skills to be studied in mathematics teaching studies with the intellectually disabled.
