The effectiveness of the use of the tablet pc in teaching pattern buiilding skills to students with intellectual disabilities

The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness, persistence and generalizability of the pattern formation skills of students with mental disabilities in mathematics education using tablet computers. For this purpose, a total of three students, one female and two male, were diagnosed with mild mental disability. the android program which was prepared for the ability of creating patterns on tablets was applied to students with mild mental disability. As the research design, multiple polling model was used among the subjects with polling stage among the participants in the single-subject research method. The independent variable of the research is the use of the pattern creation program prepared by tablet computer in teaching pattern creation to individuals with intellectual disabilities. The dependent variable of the study is the level of pattern formation skills of individuals with intellectual disabilities. As a result of 83.3% of the students success at the end of the teaching sessions, it can be said that the teaching sessions were effective. In addition, follow-up sessions were conducted on the 2nd, 4th and 6th weeks. As a result of these sessions, it was revealed that the ability to create patterns continued. It has been shown that the ability to create patterns can be generalized with different materials in generalization sessions using different shape pictures. In the social validity data of the study, expressions supporting the process were included in the teachers and their parents.
