Local history and teaching of the Zonguldak: Form the discovery of the coal to 1938

This thesis includes three parts . In the first part, after the general introduction, the problematic issues, its target, the significance and the assumption of the research are included. The historic process of Zonguldak and the vicinity are included in in the second part. In the historic process, primarily the term that the coal was discovered is summarized. Then the term from the discovery of the coal to 1938 is examined in detail. We tried to explain the projects which Atatürk applied for Turkish Republic in order to convert into modern, developed State and through the Zonguldak sample besides being the first legal city of new the state of Turkish Republic , Zonguldak is one of the most modern city of the new of Turkish Republic based on the cultural, social, architecture and industrial development, it is more than a coal city. In the third part, it is tried to be clarified that in scope of Social Studies class, how much time is parted to the local history of Zonguldak. 15 Primary School Teachers, having classes on Social Studies are applied to Semi-structured interview, it is tried to be clarified that how much time is given to the local history in their classes and how much it should be given. The answers given by 15 Social Studies Teachers, Semi-structured interviewed was coded and analyzed. Based on the findings gotten from the research, it is understood that Social Studies teachers don't have adequate information on the local History of Zonguldak, the study on local History of Zonguldak is not included in their schedule. In order to give importance to the local history of Zonguldak ,the classes for Social Studies should be increased and it should be arranged according to the exams given by Turkish Intuitions ingeneral .At the end of the research, in scope of the findings, some advices were given regarding the resolution of the problem.
