Gender in Zunun Kadiri plays

The aim of Gender in Zunun Kadiri Plays is to examine the roles of men and women in the author's plays in the context of the concept of gender. This research was shaped around the plays "Gunçem", "Gülnisa", "Toy" and "Uçraşkanda", and the other plays of the author were not included in the study due to the difficulties experienced in obtaining resources. In the "Introduction" part of the thesis, general information about the concept of gender is given and a theoretical basis for the main parts has been established. In the second part, in order to reveal the sociological and literary background of the plays examined in the thesis, information about Uyghur history, modern Uyghur theater and the life of Zunun Kadiri are given. Following the second part, in the main sections named "The Other Gender of Society: Women" and "Ideal Gender: Men", the ongoing characteristics of Uyghur women and men from the past to the present and their roles in the social structure have been evaluated. The genders of men and women in the aforementioned plays and the social stereotypes attributed to these genders have been examined. Based on the data obtained from the two main sections, another section titled "Marriage" was created and the marriage rituals in the plays were discussed on the basis of genders. Based on the works examined, many issues such as female characters who are victims of male violence, inequalities between genders, and responsibility of providing household for men only have been identified and evaluated in the "Conclusion" section. The versions of the plays translated into Turkish are given in the "Appendix" section at the end of the thesis, and new works have been brought to the literature. It is expected that the fact that a study examining the social positions of both women and men in the field of modern Turkic liteature on the basis of theatrical production has not been done before, will make an opportunity for new studies based on the many data it contains.
