The Central Asia policy of the United States after 11th September

The collapse of Soviet Empire in the early nineties is very impotant especially for the history of Central Asia. With this dissolution, 5 new republics declared independence and they became established in the stage of history with their new faces. Hence, these countries which have important enery resources as oil and natural gas have found very important places in international conjuncture. In this study, the policies which the US have been following on these countries after their independence are introduced. In this dissertation, Central Asia policy of the US is studied in two periods as the period from the and of the Cold War to September 11 and the period of Post September 11. In general, it is observed that the US has been attaching a special importance to its relations with Central Asia countries since of the Cold War and September 11 due to some reasons as the transfer efforts of energy sources of Central Asian countries to world markets, the struggle against terrorism which has been discussed widely in relevant literature recently, the competition on the Central Asia for filling political power gap, and to regain its prestige which has been disappearing in international arena since September 11. The Central Asia expansion of the US is generally evaluated in forming hegemony in the region, constructing an Eastern-Western energy corridor, fighting against terrorism and developing its relations with regional countries. Similarly, it is clearly seen that the Central Asian countries are edging towards the US based policies as to Russian and Chinese weighted policies in the power struggle among global and regional players at present. It is concluded that the US based foreign politics of Central Asian states are going to make a contribution to the US for gaining its self-reliance.Key Words: US, September 11, Central Asia, Hegemony, Power Struggle
