Wallachia and Moldavia in Ottoman domination

In the 17th century, Wallachia and Boğdan, which the Devlet-i Aliye called "Memleketeyn", was entirely dependent on the Ottoman Empire. In this century, the status of "haraçgüzârlık" of two privileged states continued. The related legal arrangements were made. Memleketeyn served as the gateway of Ottoman Empire to the west and north and procured the army during the west and north voyages of the Ottoman Empire. It provided the basic needs (iaşe) of the palace and Istanbul. However, the voivodes were not able to overcome their promises from time to time. When they had the opportunity, they made efforts to reduce their obligations. They started the uprisings. Taking the balance of power in their geographical regions into account, they drew a policy of docking to the powerful states. On the other hand, they remained under the wings of the Ottoman Empire, which were still strong in this century, and avoided the sectarian wars in Europe.
