According to Temettuat Book (Contact Book) dated 1844-1845, socio-economic conditions of nortnern villages in Harmancık, Hudavengidar Province

The Tanzimat Period, which was a turning point in the Ottoman State, was the basis of many changes in the Ottoman finance and taxation system. Temettuat notebooks were created to prevent injustice in taxation, to reduce centralized taxation and tax diversity. These notebooks have knowledge on many subjects such as agricultural lands in the hands of the people, the number of crops, the distribution of occupations in the region, the income of the people and the taxes they are obliged to pay. In this study, Temettuat notebooks 1844-1845 of the northern villages of Harmancık, which is connected to Bursa, were investigated. The books were transcribed and the obtained information was evaluated as tablets and graphs. As a result of the evaluation, the significant of the people in 8 villages of Harmancık -Akalan, Ballısaray, Engüre, Çakmak, Hobandanişment, Nalbant, Okçular and Yayabaşı Villages- earn income from agriculture and farming. In addition to these, there were professions such as servicemen, dwarf stone manufacture, cleaning, saddlery and painting. Despite not very common, beekeeping activity is also seen in the region. Taking silk tax in the region was a sign of silk insect in the region.In general, the activities carried out in the region were sufficient to meet the needs of the people.
