Abstract (EN)

Bulgarian Turks are one of the main elements of the continuity of Turkish and Islamic cultures in the societies existing in the Balkan geography. Historical wars have had to abandon the lands where the Turks settled in the Balkans and the Bulgarian Turks, where they once lived to spread Turkism and Islam. The Bulgarian Turks' immigration to Anatolia, which started with 93 War, was greatly reduced by the immigration of large numbers of Turks to the Republic of Turkey with 1989 Immigration which we have defined as Great Migration. The Bulgarian State, which was established after the disappearance of the Balkan lands of the Ottoman Empire, continued its policy of emigrating to minorities in different periods and in governments. The 1989 immigration took its place in history as a result of the failed assimilation practices of the Communist regime. This tragic event in our recent history preserves the freshness of the memory of many Bulgarian Turks who have been subjected to assimilation and compulsory nomination. The events that took place behind the Iron Curtain were very limited due to the repression regime in Turkey and the world public opinion. Many Bulgarian Turks who immigrated to Turkey with the event of the Great Migration experienced as a result of the opening of the borders are the witnesses of assimilation and forced migration which are applied. In this study, the discussions with Bulgarian immigrants in 1989 migrating to Bornova city of İzmir and the migration and settlement problems that they experienced in Turkey due to the assimilation and oppression they faced in Bulgaria took place in their work with their explanations. The interviews compiled from the memories of the compulsive people have played an important role in the knowledge of the assassins who lived in the recent past and the immigrants who were living in the aftermath of the great migration.
