Abstract (EN)

In this study, the education system in the Ottoman State in the 19th and 20th centuries was investigated over the biographies of the scholars who were born in Batum. In these scholars' biographies, their dates of birth and places of birth, families, education, schools, services and salaries were analyzed. Besides, their identity information, appearance and address information were found out from their documents. From this aspect, some inferences were made about the Ottoman bureaucracy and social life. The purpose of this study is to examine the biographies of Batum scholars, who were born in Batum, which was in the borders of the Ottoman State, and who had to migrate to the borders of the State when Batum was captured by enemies. Thus, the objectives are to help the researchers studying on this topic and to contribute to the field literature and science. In addition to this, the scholars at that period in the Ottoman State and the political, economic, social, educational and cultural structure of the state were reported in details.
