Abstract (EN)
In this study, it was aimed to retrospectively evaluate demographic and clinical characteristics of the patients diagnosed with TB in the Research Hospital of Dicle University during the years 2008-2009.A total of 413 cases diagnosed with TB in our hospital during the period mentioned above were included into the study. It was established that 53,5% of the cases were females, and that 53,3% had Extrapulmonary Tuberculosis (EPTB). The prevalence of EPTB was observed to be statistically higher in females with respect to males (p<0,005). Of totally 220 cases with EPTB, 50% was seen to have pleural and lymph node TB. In the cases with Pulmonary TB (PTB) in our study, the rate of (+) smear was determined to be 69,5%.We also found that the diagnosis was made microscopically on 37,0%, histopathologically on 32,2% and clinically-radiologically on 30,8% of all cases. When the cases diagnosed with TB were evaluated in terms of age groups, it was found that 52,3% were in young-adult groups (15-44 years old) and that they were economically at productive age. It was seen that 51,6% of the cases were diagnosed in the Chest Diseases Clinic of our hospital. The onset symptoms were, in terms of their frequency, established as caugh in 46%, fever in 29,8% and dyspnea in 23,5%. In 17,7% of all cases with TB, it was found that TB was accompanied by other additional diseases, and that diabetes was at the highest level (25%).It was also established that 53,3% had come from other provinces outside of Diyarbakır and had been hospitalized for 15 days and treated. Despite all goodwill, efforts to cooperate and official applications, the rate of information has remained at 25,7%, which was only orally. In conclusion, in order that the National TB Control Programme coult be successful, it is necessary to enhance the cooperation between the institutions and to hold more education programmes and more TB information meeting for more public awareness regarding TB.Kaywords: Tuberculosis, demographic and clinical characteristics, university hospital
