Abstract (EN)

This study aims to classify "Turkish semantic questions regarding "comprehension" directed in the YGS exam according to Bloom's cognitive domain taxonomy; to categorize the questions as lexical meaning, sentential meaning, paragraph knowledge; and to determine the correlation between these subjects and the cognitive categories. Descriptive survey model was applied in the current research and the data was acquired through the way of document review. The population cosisted of Turkish semantic questions regarding comprehension asked in YGS. The research sample comprised of 252 semantic questions directed in the YGS exams between 2010 and 2017. The YGS system of examination was practiced from 2010 until 2017. In this respect, the study includes all Turkish questions in YGS system. Between 2010 and 2017, the total number of question regarding "comprehension" was 252. From 2010 to 2017, the distribution of these 252 questions has been as follows: Most of the questions were situated in the category of "understand" (93 questios). The category of "analysis" followed the category of "comprehesion" (89 questions). Between 2010 and 2017, 14 questions in the category of "application" 38 questions the category of "synthesis" and 18 questions the category of "evaluation" were asked. In the category of "knowledge", the lowest category of Bloom's taxonomy, no question was asked during these 8 years. The data in the current study involves Turkish semantic questions regarding "comprehension". Between 2010 and 2017, 203 questions out of 252 were asked about "paragraph knowledge", 41 of them were asked about sentential meaning, and 8 of them were asked about lexical meaning. While the ratio of questions asked in the category of "comprehension" was 36,9 %, the ratio of questions asked in the category of "analysis" was 35,3. As it is understood from the data, students who developed the skills of comprehension and analysis have become more successful in the YGS system. According to Bloom's taxonomy, the highest cognitive categories are "analysis", "synthesis", and "evaluation". The total number of questions measuring the highest cognitive skills between 2010 and 2017 were 145. The ratio of the data is 57,88 %. Although thos ratio is agreeable, the distribution among questios in the highest categories was found not to be normal. While 89 questions were asked in the category of "analysis", only 38 questions in the category of "synthesis", and only 18 questions in the category of "evaluation" were asked.
