People's Republic of China-Japan relations and nationalism in 21. century

Abstract (EN)

This thesis examines the key role which nationalism plays in the formation of Sino-Japanese Relations. It is argued that the reason of worsening the relations of the two countries is the nationalism discourse which has raised in 1980 an1990?s and has been elaborated in 2000?s.The realist and liberal paradigms which argues that circumstances forces states to behave in certain ways; put the material factors, international structure, social harmony-comfort or universal peace into the center of their analysis. However constructivist theory is describing a picture which assume the existence of situational realities of actors. As a domestic variable, nationalism may be the reason of seeming irrational behavior of actors at the first look. Rising of Nationalism discourse in a country needs specific conditions about identity, culture and history. Because of this reason, the cold relations and dark future projections about Sino-Japanese diplomatic and politic relations can be understood only by analysing that specific conditions. By doing this analyses it is excepted that illimunating the reasons of the worsening Sino ? Japanese relationsKey words: Constructivism, Domestic Factors, History, Nationalism
