Investigating the effect of 5E learning model supported digital worksheets on 4th grade students' measurement sense

The aim of the study is to investigate the effect of the 5E-supported interactive digital worksheet used as a teaching tool on the development of measurement sense in the 4th grade measurement learning domain. The participant group of the study consisted of 52 students studying in two different groups at the 4th grade level of a public primary school affiliated to the Ministry of National Education (MoNE) in Beyşehir district of Konya province in the 2022-2023 academic year. In accordance with the sub-problems in the study, a quasi-experimental design with a control group was used from quantitative research methods. For the purpose of the study, there are two groups, one experimental and one control group. The implementation process of the study was carried out for 21 lesson hours for a total of 4 weeks. In the experimental group, 5E-supported interactive digital worksheets were used, while in the control group, lessons were carried out with the traditional method within the mathematics curriculum. In the study, the Sense of Measurement Test (SST), which was developed by the researcher and whose reliability coefficient was calculated as 0.80, was used as a data collection tool. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, dependent groups t test and independent groups t test were applied using SPSS 26.0 statistical package program. As a result of the data analysis, it was seen that the use of 5E-supported interactive worksheets had a statistically significant difference in the development of 4th grade students' sense of measurement. It was seen that both control group and experimental group students' sense of measurement improved. However, when the mean scores of the students in the experimental group were compared with the mean scores of the students in the control group, it was observed that the increase in the mean scores of the students in the experimental group was higher. As a result, it is statistically significant that the mean scores of the experimental group, in which 5E-supported interactive digital worksheets were used, were higher than those of the control group, which was taught with the traditional method within the scope of the current mathematics teaching program.
